The initial amount of tone mapping it does is fairly subtle and works well for many types of images. The biggest asset for me is raw processing with tone mapping on the fly for single images. **See below to get my preset for free (I also have one for X-Trans)** What I like best about this 2018 version For some images I click a simple preset I’ve made that adds some further optimization and voila! I’m done with most of my adjustments. Here’s what I’ve realized using this method with single exposures: Right after I click the Create HDR button I’m presented with an image that is mostly optimized. For single image processing I make sure to leave Tone Mapping checked and Color Denoise unchecked (unchecking Denoise is to speed up opening.) This is the preview you get when choosing an image to open. I leave the Tone Mapping checked but I uncheck the Color Denoise option to speed up the opening/processing of the raw file and I end up with a nice starting point. I’m immediately presented with a small version of my image with a few options. I can simply right-click on the image and select Show in Finder, then drag and drop that raw file on to Aurora HDR 2018. But after spending some time with Aurora HDR 2018 I have a new option that can save me time. Depending on the image I may be able to do my adjustments right within Photo Raw. I start my typical workflow by doing my culling in ON1 Photo Raw. As many of you have heard me say- raw is blah! Typically raw files need sharpening/detail work, contrast, saturation and in many cases bringing out shadow and highlight detail. Whether a landscape, architecture or a portrait, raw files need some optimization. A New and Useful Option for Single Image Workflowĭuring my usual workflow, once I’ve made my selections of best images from a shoot, I go to my top picks and start processing them. Naturally everyone has different needs so keep that in mind when deciding and you can always download the trial first and see how it works for you. In my opinion it’s hard to go wrong for $89/€89 ($49/€49 for existing users.) If you use multiple exposure HDR then you’ll get even more utility out of it. Another bonus is that it processes Fuji raw X-Trans files quite nicely. The obvious question: Is it worth the money? The short answer is yes, but I answer this question with another question: Will it save me time often enough to spend the money? If you read the rest of my review you’ll see I look at this in terms of using it for single image processing and the answer is yes. And now Windows users can enjoy and make use of it too! **It processes Fuji X-Trans RAW files nicely too** Bottom Line First This all new Aurora HDR 2018 is available to order for BOTH Mac and Windows. Use discount code WOLFSON for an additional $10/€10 off. In fact I’ve only been using it for single exposures and so far really liking the results. Aha! not the way most people use it… Guess what? This program has some really awesome features for many tasks that are not the usual HDR uses. Why do I say my review has a “twist”? Because I’m not a fan of HDR, at least not the way most people use it. MacPhun sent me Aurora HDR 2018 a little early to try out so I could tell you about it. This is a short review of Aurora HDR 2018, with a twist. I used the EVF and Velvia film simulation to aid in pre-capture visualization. I shot this on the north coast of France in open sun so there is a lot of contrast and dynamic range which Aurora HDR 2018 handles quite well just by applying some tone mapping while it opens the raw file. You Don’t Have to Like HDR to Like Aurora HDR 2018īefore (left) and After (right) tone mapping and applying my simple preset.

ServiceNow said that Finance and Supply Chain Workflows bring together people, processes, data and technology to support new features that include:Īccounts Payable Operations (APO) - which claims to automate the accounts payable process so employees don’t have to manually enter data or reconcile invoices against purchase orders and goods delivered. Today we got some finer details on what this looks like, with the launch of ServiceNow Finance and Supply Chain Workflows. McDermott told diginomica last year that ServiceNow would be targeting ERP modernization, without forcing customers to consolidate, upgrade or rip out their systems. But more importantly, if ServiceNow wants to be a system of engagement/action for the whole enterprise, it cannot ignore the system of record that is often described as the ‘engine of the enterprise’. ERP modernizationĪs most will know, McDermott has a long history in the field of ERP - having previously served as SAP CEO for a number of years. To support this top-level ambition, let’s take a look at some of the announcements coming from ServiceNow this week. And we're gonna simplify everything for you. My take on it is we have the great re-prioritization of enterprise systems. So for the technology landscape, it's always a question of what to build and what to buy and how to operate at maximum efficiency. And it will drive a new era of economic prosperity in the world for the exponential companies. This will drive beyond expectation results for your companies. It goes beyond last year's results or last month's numbers, to predicting the future outcomes with great accuracy. It moves to end-to-end digital transformation. It goes beyond the 20th century architectures, beyond these silos that kill us, beyond the side projects. So let's think about applying that mindset to where our businesses have been, where they are today and where they need to go. That’s the difference between thinking old school and thinking exponentially. But if we took 30 exponential steps - 1, 2, 4, 8 - we actually go a billion meters. If we take 30 linear steps - 1, 2, 3, 4 - we will go 30 meters. To maximíze this moment we need to understand the difference between linear and exponential thinking. Now with the advancements on AI (read more on the product releases below), McDermott said that the Now platform can become the foundation for what he is calling the ‘exponential enterprise’. However, it has since expanded its presence across the enterprise, as its customers saw opportunities for using the platform in areas that range across HCM, CRM and ERP (and integrating across all of these).Ī key selling point for buyers is that they don’t need to replace technology purchase decisions of the past, building on top of existing systems, and enabling automated workflows across organizational boundaries. Historically, ServiceNow built a name for itself within IT, for its ITSM workflow capabilities. In essence, it aims to reduce complexity by providing employees or customers with automated workflows that don’t require an understanding of the complexity that’s built into an underlying system of record. That's what we're building.īy way of context, ServiceNow has found success with customers by recognizing that its platform can be used to unlock value for buyers across their organizations, using the Now platform to tap into siloed systems of record, creating a common system of engagement/action. We're building the future of business on this intelligent platform, for end-to-end digital transformation. ServiceNow it is the intelligent platform for end-to-end, digital transformation. diginomica has an interview with McDermott later in the week to dig deeper into the announcements, but following the keynote this morning, it’s clear that the company is progressing at pace with its strategy to unify systems of record to create a ‘system of engagement and action’ across the enterprise. The announcements range from bolstering ServiceNow’s skills programme, to supporting non-profits, to new ERP workflow capabilities, and of course, integrating with generative AI tools. Some 15,000 attendees descended on Las Vegas this week for ServiceNow’s annual user event, Knowledge, where the workflow vendor made a number of announcements that CEO Bill McDermott believes can support customers in becoming ‘exponential enterprises’. You can even fine-tune it to fit a specific stock speed. The software includes film stock-specific profiles to ensure you’re scanning in the correct color space. Silverfast is software that gives you more control over the image before you scan it. There are even programs that are compatible with specific scanners (like the ones listed above) such as SIlverfast. First, use scanning-specific programs like the Epson software included with your scanner. There are two ways to approach scanning film negatives. This would offset the cost of having to buy a bulky new scanner and the software that you’ll be required to use.Īlso, before we move on, I just want to say you can use a tripod with your digital camera, and lay your negatives over an iPad or light panel with the brightness turned up. I’d be willing to bet if you are just now getting into film photography, you might already be in the photography space. In my opinion, this is the best way to scan your negatives. You can check out various gear packages to see what looks best for you.įilm photographer and filmmaker Brae Hunziker recently published a guide on how to use their products, and it’s one of the most thorough walkthroughs on scanning film available. The whole process just seems so streamlined. I haven’t personally used one of these setups, but it’s on my bucket list because I’m tired of my scanner taking up so much space on my desk. A new company called Negative Supply created stands to mount your camera, with a negative film holder allowing you to streamline this scanning process in the simplest way possible. The best part is there are products designed to help us with this process. You might be wondering, what about lens distortion and focal lengths? How do you ensure the cleanest photo/scan for your negative? The general rule of thumb is that you need a macro lens to shoot in relatively low light to avoid unwanted leaks and noise from your camera. Then, convert the image in Photoshop, Lightroom, or a photo editing program.Position your camera above the negatives on a light bed (or an iPad). Here is a list of some of the best and cheapest scanner options to consider:Ī relatively newer way of scanning film negatives is with your digital mirrorless or DSLR camera. The larger the file size you wish to scan, the longer it will take to scan your negative. By selecting the DPI (dots per inch), you determine the image’s overall quality and file size. You can also choose the size you want the image to be. You will have a live view of the image before scanning the negative. These holders allow you to place the negatives right on top in their allotted slot, which you will then place down on the scanning bed.įrom here, you can choose how you want to scan the film negative-you can add warmth and contrast, and tweak the highlights and shadows. These scanners come with film holders for 35mm and medium format. Most of these Epson scanners come with a software download included, so you’ll need to look out for that once you start setting it up. Surprisingly enough, there are still new Epson scanners available for cheap, allowing you to plug right into your computer and start scanning. The first and probably easiest option is to buy a scanner online. Let’s dive into a number of tutorials from the photographers leading this space on YouTube. There are also programs to check out that help you scan, convert the negatives, and edit the photos. Whether it’s buying an old Noritsu, a newer Epson model, or using a mirrorless/DSLR camera, there are plenty of ways to convert your negatives into digital files. Let’s dive in for the key considerations when scanning your film negatives at home.Īt-home scanners are still available on various sites with a plethora of options to choose from. If you opt out of scanning at the lab (I usually do), you can scan them at home once you receive the negative back from the lab. It’s a huge cost-saving measure in what can be a very expensive endeavor shooting on film. What’s next?įilm labs will most likely have the option to scan the negatives for you, and they will then send you the photos in a downloadable folder at a resolution of your choosing (the higher the resolution, the higher the cost). Let’s say you get your hands on an old 35mm camera or medium format camera. That’s why it is more important than ever to the proper method for scanning film negatives. If anything, that probably adds to its allure. It doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon–regardless of prices or limited supply. The resurgence of shooting on film has dominated the photography and filmmaking conversation in the past five years. Let’s talk about how to get the best results when scanning film negatives outside of a professional photo lab. The car key is a small red key that can be found in the first act, inside the room containing the yellow key. The Rusty Green Key is a key which is used to unlock The Player’s house at the start of act 3, it can be found inside the trunk of the car While it isn't mandatory for beating the game, it allows for a shortcut to the Neighbor's yard. In previous versions, the door was instead held shut with a chair. The nearby door is held shut by the white lock, which the key can unlock. The white key is found on a wall hook, inside the small room available after beating the Fear School minigame during the third act. To open it, the player must use the electromagnet hatch to get the rifle past the door, and then go into the next room and shoot six switches, and then pull the small lever that is opened up. It can be found in a small container in the room past the gun-detecting door. In the third act, the red key unlocks the door in the room suspended near the roof, allowing access to the Fear Darkness minigame. It is found in an isolated room on the top floor, and the player must flood the previous room and freeze the water with the nearby lever in order to gain access. In the second act, the red key is one of the methods of escaping the Neighbor's house, and unlocks the large front gate which is keeping the player captive. It can be found in the child's bedroom on the top floor, on a cabinet. In the first act, the red key is the item required to get into the basement. In Alpha 3, it could instead be found in a locked case above the Neighbor's front door, and was essential for getting the rifle. It has very little purpose other than to allow for a shortcut, and is the only one of the keys that is not mandatory for beating the game. In the third act, the golden key can be found behind the door that it unlocks, though there is an alternate path to that room the player must take. In the second act, the key can be found in the room above the child's bedroom, and allows for a shortcut back to the fireplace room nearby. In order to get the key, the player must remove the nearby oversized painting and jump through the hole it covered. In the first act of the game, the golden key unlocks a door on the second floor of the house, and the key itself is next to that door. To turn off the electromagnet, the player must visit the roof and, using the red gramophone, navigate past the tomato plants and drop an object into the hatch covering the gears. It can be found attached to the electromagnet in the room next to the tram station at the top of the ladders. The green key allows the player to unlock the first floor door near the stairs that takes the player to the Fear School level. In Act Two, it is on a wall hook next to the door it unlocks. It's only required for unlocking an easier path to the third floor and train car. It requires the magnet gun in order to be obtained. It can be found on the second floor, in a cabinet behind the painting. The blue key allows the player access to the room on the 3rd floor containing the crowbar and the platform which takes them to the Fear Supermarket level. Medical alert systems complement the watches in multiple ways: providers often sell pill dispensers alongside the base package, and the help button can be worn around the neck, so the elderly won’t find themselves in an awkward position of wearing more than one wristwatch at the same time.Participants’ interactions with MedBuddy, as tracked through Amazon Alexa, only occurred on half of the study days (mean 50.97, SD 29.5). In short, seniors need another safety net. Also, despite the fact that the watch will set a reminder for the next dose, it doesn’t guarantee that the wearer will actually follow up on the action. There are other emergencies that may occur, such as falling, epilepsy or having a stroke. Unfortunately, med reminder watches are only an answer for one issue threatening the independence of the elderly. Medical Alert System for Complete Protection The wisest choice is to pair the two up: set the same date and times for the medical alert watch and the medication dispenser, so when the watch is activated, the pills are already dished out and ready to take. However, med dispensers excel at housing a whole week’s worth of medicine in a tamper-proof lockbox, and will distribute them throughout the day. The same could be said about the alarm watches: products such as the MedCenter watch are only able to carry a few pills. Despite some dispensers boasting notification functions, they are stationary and their sound won’t always reach the aging users. If you’re aiming for complete peace of mind and want to ensure your beloved senior takes their daily dose, then combine medical alert watches with med dispensers. Order at Amazon Medical Alert Watch vs Medication Dispenser The watch ‘sticks’ to their wrist at all times, ensuring they take their daily medicine no matter where they are. But on the other hand, seniors who are forgetful or suffer from hearing impairments may leave the phone in another room and miss the reminder entirely. Alarm apps are more flexible in how they display custom messages, too, and reading them on a relatively larger screen also adds to the convenience. It’s undeniably true that programming such an alarm is much easier on a touchscreen while fiddling with the little buttons on the watch is quite tedious. Med reminder watches often struggle against the reigning popularity of smartphones, since the core notification function can be easily replaced with a mobile application. Sometimes the watch is paired up with a small portable container, meaning you can consume the medication right away. The feature set varies with each watch: some of them boast water resistance while others store your medical history in case of an emergency. Most products are capable of ringing the alarm twelve separate times a day, and even display a short message that indicates which pills should be taken. They are highly recommended for absent-minded seniors, kids, people with Alzheimer, diabetes or other illnesses that require precise medication. The key difference is that med reminder watches feature several programmable alarm functions, countdowns, and some of them even vibrate. In fact, other people probably won’t tell the difference until the alarm tune initiates. Medication reminder watches closely resemble a digital watch. Luckily there are clocks that remind users to take their medication, smartphone apps and other items all aimed at keeping the senior in the loop, but probably the most effective one is the medication reminder watch since it never leaves the wearer’s arm. The pills must be also taken on a strict schedule to avoid negative side effects. And as the body gets older its biological threshold becomes lower, meaning that skipping a few occasions or overdosing could have lethal consequences. On a daily basis nearly 40% of the American elderly take five or more prescribed drugs, loading up on a rainbow of colorful pills just to get by.
